At Spoon & Rice, we serve authentic Filipino flavours brought to life through a modern London street food experience. Our food is rooted in tradition, shaped by culture, and reimagined for today’s fast-moving, flavour-driven world.

This collaboration with Roni B’s Kitchen is a celebration of that balance — where heritage meets creativity, and familiar Filipino flavours are explored in new and exciting ways.

At the heart of this launch is one ingredient that brings everything together: tamarind.

Now Launching in Willesden Green

We’re proud to introduce this exclusive collaboration at our Spoon & Rice Willesden Green restaurant, where customers can now experience a brand-new Filipino-inspired street food menu in London.

This launch marks the first chapter of the collaboration, with the menu soon to be available on leading food delivery platforms across London, making it easier than ever to enjoy these bold, tangy flavours at home.

Tamarind: The Heart of Filipino Flavour

Tamarind is more than just an ingredient — it’s a cornerstone of Filipino cooking and a flavour that instantly connects people to home.

Known in the Philippines as sampalok, tamarind is a tropical fruit with a distinct sweet and sour profile that brings balance, brightness, and depth to dishes. It is most famously used in sinigang, a traditional Filipino sour soup that showcases the signature taste of asim — the refreshing tang that defines much of Filipino cuisine.

Filipino food is built on harmony. Every dish balances sweet, sour, salty, and savoury elements, and tamarind plays a key role in achieving that depth of flavour without overpowering the dish.

A few things to know about tamarind in Filipino culture:

  • Sampalok is a staple in both home cooking and everyday street food.

  • The flavour of asim is deeply familiar in Filipino households and cooking traditions.

  • Tamarind is used across savoury dishes, drinks, sweets, and even traditional remedies.

  • It represents the balance and depth that define Filipino food culture.

For this collaboration, tamarind became the perfect bridge — grounding the menu in Filipino flavour traditions while allowing space for creative, modern interpretation.
